IN REVIEW: APRIL 26th, 2010

Rainfall has recently completed its second year of business — and what a year it's been.
Despite a struggling economy, the company saw it's busiest time yet, expanding our clientele with high concept productions. It suddenly became a requirement that we grow our facilities and capabilities ahead of schedule — bringing in new talent, new hardware, and moving to a new location. In May of 2009, we opened up shop on the west side of Los Angeles, just blocks from the beach. Our new office has allowed us to further invest in workstations, digital storage, and most importantly, our render farm.
Music videos was the name of the game in 2009. From full production to post, Rainfall worked nonstop with a huge variety of artists, including Jenivieve, Lisa Donnelly, Sean Paul, Amerie, Katy Perry, Adam Lambert and Lil Wayne. Concepts ranged in complexity, from practical locations to fully CG environments.
Due to increased demand for audio work, including music and sound design, we launched our sister company Runsilent. Jeff Dodson composed original music for the Onesize showreel, Offf Festival, Eros, Hurley, and produced a new album for his Defrag project, Lament Element. Stuart Balcomb scored the documentaries 1000 Journals and Mythic Journeys, which won numerous festival awards around the world. His American Trilogy was performed by the New York Philharmonic, and will be recorded for an album this Spring.
Visual effects and graphic design continued to be an important staple in our business. In addition to our work on music videos, Rainfall produced full graphic packages for several G4 television shows, including Wild On, Confessions of a Booth Babe, and Olivia Munn 09. Certain projects required the cultivation of new 3D techniques, whether destroying a city for Lostprophets, or painting with light for Kid Sister.
Our second year came to a close with two of Rainfall's most ambitious projects. G4 hired our production team to shoot a pair of television specials, Thelma & Louise II: Avatars of Pandora, and I'm Awesomer than You — with T&L2 airing in December of 2009 and Awesomer set to premiere at Comic-Con 2010 in San Diego. Both productions were intensely complicated, requiring everything from heavy stuntwork, to huge CG environments, to digital doubles. You can read more about these, and our other work, on our projects page.
We would like to begin our third year by thanking our clients, our fans, and our visitors. Without your support, none of this would be possible. Remember to check out our 2010 Showreel, and visit this site often for continuous updates. There is much to look forward to in the coming months, and we cannot wait to share it with you.
Cheers,
Sam Balcomb, Jesse Soff, Jeff Dodson, Kholi Hicks & Stuart Balcomb
