YEAR THREE
IN REVIEW: MAY 27th ,2011

As Rainfall completes its third year of operation, we celebrate with a new website design, more in-depth coverage of our productions, and the promise of many exciting developments in the months to come.

The company has continued to expand in numerous ways, from new clientele to breakthrough technologies in the fields of filmmaking and post production. After an enjoyable stay on the west side, Rainfall moved its production office to Studio City to be closer to many of our clients, studios and record labels. The size and scope of work have grown as well, with numerous shoots taking place everywhere from mammoth sound stages, to vast deserts, and even overseas.

Production ramped up significantly, with several high profile projects:

- In the Spring of 2010, Rainfall shot a western short, The Damage Done, which won first place in the DVX WESTFEST, became a Vimeo home page staff pick, and was awarded three Telly Awards (production, people's choice and sound design).

- Director Kholi Hicks finished production on his first feature, Superseeds, which is now in post.

- G4 hired Rainfall to produce an epic music video starring Olivia Munn and Kevin Pereirra as superheroes, having a knockdown-dragout brawl. The shoot (with a cameo by Stan Lee) required a skilled stunt team to pull off the intense fight without injury. The video was a smash hit at Comic-Con that July.

- A 30-second motion graphics spot for the ABC's Lost was chosen by viewers (and the show's creators) to air during the penultimate episode.

- In the Fall, the Rainfall crew filmed the making-of documentary for Sony's triple-A title Killzone 3, which took them to San Diego (for the mocap shoot with Malcolm McDowell and Ray Winstone) and Amsterdam, where the developers were completing the game. Overall Rainfall produced over forty minutes of original content for gamers who bought the collectors edition.

- IGN hired Rainfall to produce their first nationally televised commercial, Bad Game. The spot aired on NBC and USA throughout the course of 2011.

Visual effects and motion graphics were, as always, a cornerstone of our business. The Rainfall VFX team upped their game by contributing to some of the year's biggest music videos: Britney Spears' Till the World Ends called for a massive destruction of Los Angeles via asteroid, while Willow Smith's Whip My Hair required liquid paint dynamics (Willow's video current stands at over 53 million Youtube views). For IGN's annual April Fools video, Rainfall provided a number of Harry Potter themed VFX shots for their promo, The Aurors. A full show open package was created for IGN's coverage of E3. And, as they say, much much more.

Our fourth year has already begun, and we are greatly looking forward to sharing what's in store. We continue to push ourselves and our benchmarks to provide the best quality of results possible, and in an ever-changing industry with no guarantees, we thank you for your interest in Rainfall.

Cheers,

Sam Balcomb, Jesse Soff, Jeff Dodson, Kholi Hicks & Stuart Balcomb
